A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"

Harvest: sleep settles in after a long birthday weekend.  His pillow was a longawaited gift, found here at "My Bearded Pigeon", what satisfying work, I must say, thanks to Jodi's referal last year.

Pip: tells me of his bucket list. This young dreamer is ready to sail to uncharted territories.

Henri: caught this via Instagram. On our way to Nashville, a checkup at Vanderbilt Hospital, Henri had to make a pit stop at the railroad museum.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"
Lily: a glimpse into her prairie girl side. She's most comfortable without a clock in sight.

Linen: hugs herself as we scurry from one cozy nook to another, on our weekend date.

Henri: caught tinkering with big brother's nanoblock creations.

Liberty: my lens snaked around the fallen trees to find this lovely little creature one her own time.

Pip: became the human arrow on the zip line.  He had our attention with, "Watch this!", followed by a draw back and release all afternoon.

Harvest: challenged himself, walking over "huge ravines", until moss covered logs changed from narrow bridges to bareback horses.

Stephen spent his day off yesterday with all of us at a unique playground nestled in a small ravine atop Signal Mt. We picnicked, hiked, and cuddled, soaking in sunlight.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"
Liberty: "Bertie", she's called by close friends and family.

Lily: has carried the endearing name, "Peanut", from her pint size of 3 lbs 14 oz, given by the nurses NICU as an infant.

Linen: Tends to go by "Ruthie Bear", recently shortening to Ruthie alone.  She loves to be called that.

Part Un 5/52

February 3, 2013

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"
Harvest: Wonder struck by the snow flurry this afternoon. I wouldn't give myself shock treatment if this look became Harv's trademark in his teen idol era :).

Henri: lumbered ahead as we explored the snow puddles about our block.

Pip: gives us a show for camera. Next best thing to a dog is a boy's scooter. Pip doesn't leave the house without it.

First thing, I'd like to thank you all for the suggestions pertaining to my photo concern last week. I'll be working with Lightroom soon! Also, I'm considering a camera upgrade in the near future. I'm currently shooting with a Cannon G12.  Any nominations?

Now! It was the best of times, this week. !!! We coasted through, whilst sending my cleansing energy into progressive action: organizing... re-organizing! Crossing out to-do lists, hosting play dates for the wee young and restless, finishing up of a book that's been collecting dust at my bedside; all gave an exhilarated sense of accomplishment. Not to mention, the lemonade extension of my cleanse is over TODAY!!!! I now have a refreshed appreciation for food.

The short but sweet flurry of snow yesterday morning then again in the late afternoon, had us all over the moon! I missed shots of the morning snow due to my bashing of an Estate Party (clearing throat) Sale! I totally scored some fun, mid century treasures at a storybook property, but a 20 minute drive outside the Chattanooga Burbs, into North Georgia. I'll post pictures, as soon as these new additions find a place here at home.
Winter isn't over yet....what a thrill to have another fuss of snow before spring arrives! Here in the valley, snow that sticks is of rare variety. We had a good 1/4 inch on the ground until the early afternoon sun appeared. You can see, if you look closely, the scatter of afternoon flakes in the shots of Harvey and Pip. I know, funny how I go on. You see....
Growing up in Alabama,  December through February is brown and evergreen speckled. Ice skating on lakes, igloos and sledding are but 2D aliens to me. The closest thing here we have to sledding is sliding down grassy knolls on cardboard at a Renaissance Park across the river. Which is SO FUN! I bought a handmade corncob pipe at the Appalachian Center for Crafts last month in someday hopes to give a snowman in my own front yard.

2 years ago Chattanooga's Christmas morning was met with the wed of magic and snow that even the weathermen hadn't predicted! The day was given a stunning, white carpet bed for us all to rest in. Hence the children have been hard convinced that Christmas was really here if there wasn't snow icing the rooftops! No amount of homemade cinnamon rolls or stuffed stockings can compete.

Have a beautiful week with fresh ideas and moments to listen to drips of icicles... if that's what your neck of woods may hold!

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"

Liberty: She hosted a funeral on the front porch for her imaginary friend Emma, today. Her remorse, felt by all.

Linen: Entirely absorbed in making friendship bracelets, she speaks of times spent with her dear friend Olivia, .

Lily: Snuck a giddy grin on our way to attend a friend's baptism. She bounced from the nursery to the service and back, torn between two loves: babies and celebration.

Harvest: Leading the family on our Sunday afternoon walk. Impossible to keep up with.

Henri: Building with the darling antique blocks I keep on display in the bookcase. All the children have worked with these. I'll never be able to give them up!

Pip: Once again my picky eater, last one at the table, using every excuse to keep a hotdog from entering his mouth. A hotdog! Every kids likes a dog! He's inherited this trait from me. I'm sure of it. (no worries, Crunchies, it's clean!)

Alright blogging gurus...I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get the vertical shots side by side. Help! I'm desperate! Is there a SIMPLE way? I use Picassa...

Also, I started my annual cleanse this week. Detoxing does a body gooooooooood!!!! My heart, soul, mind, and body are beginning to feel aligned. Oh, sweet Clarity, you are invaluable! Anyone care to share your favorite cleanse?? Can't wait to hear...

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"

Linen: "Find me in red". She lends herself to bright colors, due to the passion and romance in her heart.
Lily: "Nose in a book". Lily has given herself to reading the classics this rainy season. She's recently completed 'Alice in Wonderland', cover to cover! Now on to that in hand. The Secret Garden was a personal fave of mine at 10.
Liberty: The rain has brought this dreamer into her element. She plays the puddles as one who leaps from cloud to cloud. Her song is best heard in the rain.
Harvest: Caught this one in the few seconds he paused from front-porch-pirate-play. With his 7th birthday coming up, I want to put these last few weeks of being 6 in a box, wrapped and hidden for another rainy day.
Pip: Ah! This young lad can break me of any rainy day blues. What sunshine! The antlers are but the icing, yes?
Henri: The coat he's wearing was my brother's! He refuses the hat that matches. Shucks! I'm going to eat his earlobes for a midmorning snack!
The moon made a Cheshire appearance last Thursday night. Grinning as he peeked through the clouds, reassuring us of his exsistance. Until then, the rain had fallen for 10 days straight days over our valley. I found rest and peace as the house was quiet, listening to a thirsty ground marinate deeply with what earth would need for color, come spring.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013"

Linen Ruth: Stealing away to enjoy breakfast alone, at late morning.

Jonavon Philip, "Pip": Caught this contemplative stare, while sinking into bed sharing Papa's last few minutes of birthday sleep-in.

Sharing dreams. Sharing thoughts. Families share more than we'd ever like to think or dream of.  Sharing my children with you!!! I can honestly say, of all the accomplishments, all the experiences; I am more proud of them than anything. Hah! Who am I kidding?? They have me wrapped around their little fingers! Pip and I are working on reading this morning. 5 minutes ago, conversation goes...

Me: "Pip, you'll have to do what I'm saying, if you want to learn to read. I'm like your teacher."

Pip: "Mom. You are my servant."

- with a completely serious face, as if he's enlightening me. No, Pip, I've known this.
